We had some friends tell us about this trip they took to Stowe,Vermont were the apple cider runs freely and the Ben and Jerry's goes down smooth. I got obsessed with the idea of going so last October (2015) over Patrick's fall break we drove up to Vermont to enjoy the amazing fall colors.
On our way up we passed Dartmouth University and since we enjoy seeing college towns and campuses we decided to make a little stop to look around. It was homecoming weekend and the small little town was packed with students and Alumni wearing their Dartmouth green. I have a love for small New England college towns and intense school spirit. I never had much school spirit for my college and sometimes it makes me a little sad and envious of those kids who just love their university experience.
Anyway, we made it up to Vermont and our little Airbnb that we stayed in for the weekend. It was the perfect little cabin on gorgeous property owned by a couple who lived in a big house next door and was about a 15 minute drive from Stowe. Now please enjoy a slew of pictures of the cabin and the surrounding town.
This guy was unfortunately the victim of roadkill, I'm assuming. He was very much dead and though you can't see it in this picture, he had a chunk taken out the back of him. How or why he was propped up on the guardrail is a mystery to me, albeit a humorous one.
What a handsome guy. That red beard though. Gets me every time.
Sunday best. Do you see what I mean about the colors?!
We spent Sunday afternoon taking scenic drives around Stowe. We went up the Scenic Toll Road and just enjoyed the crisp fall air and being together.

Monday we spent up in Stowe eating apple cider doughnuts and drinking cider and hiking up Mt. Mansfield.
Early morning fog had my me like 😍😍
Don't mind my super awkward stance...I think the boards were uneven.....
After our hike we went to the Von Trapp Family Lodge and looked around the property and read some of the history of the Von Trapp family. We got lunch at the little (expensive) cafe there which was typical German fare like bratwurst sandwiches, etc. We went into Montpellier for dinner at a decent crepe place and then rented the Woman in Gold on redbox.
Tuesday was our last day and we had cider doughnuts round 2 before we went on a small hike in Stowe.
And then we drove home, stopping at the Ben and Jerry's factory for a tour and free sample of course. If you're ever looking for a weekend getaway in Vermont, I highly recommend the Stowe area.
